Welcome all fifth graders and parents! On this web page, you will find helpful websites for extra practice in math and other subjects.

Be on the lookout for "The Burbank Weekly". This is a newsletter given to 5B students every Friday. It will contain information for the upcoming week. You can find the spelling list, test dates, important events, and the weekly HALO winner in my newsletter.

Religion- The main focus in fifth grade religion is the Sacraments. Our 5B class Masses are September 7 and April 26. The entire fifth grade will be preparing the Thanksgiving Mass on November 22. Adoration & Benediction will be Thursday. The character traits for the 2016-2017 school year are: truth, courage, humility, generosity, peace, trust, mercy, and joy.

Reading- We will be studying various genres this year: mystery, historical fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, biography, tall tales, and science fiction. Each quarter fifth graders have a ten point goal for their AR reading. Students will have a weekly reading log to track their independent reading at home.

Spelling- On Friday students will be given a new spelling list along with a packet to be completed. Then the following week there will be a pretest on Monday, the packet will be due Wednesday, and the test will be Friday. The test includes the twenty spelling words and dictation sentences. If students earn a 100% on the Monday pretest, they only have to take the dictation part of the test on Friday.

Math - It is imperative that fifth graders know the basic facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If your child is rusty on any of these, please review them each night. Decimals, fractions, geometry, and problem solving will be a part of fifth grade math.

Science - We will cover earth, space, and life science in fifth grade. Tests will be given after each chapter. Students will have a study guide to help them prepare for the tests.
