Art With Mrs. Andress

Ink and Watercolor line and color lesson- grade 4

ART Makes You Smart!

My name is Mrs. Karen Andress and I teach art to grades 3 and 4 at Nottingham Elementary School. I am a life-long resident of Oxford and a graduate of Kutztown University. I have taught art at every grade level, from kindergarten through high school. Nothing is more rewarding than teaching something you love to a group of curious and creative children. It is with great joy and gratitude that I guide your young artist through a year of art and adventure!

We have an exciting art program that offers children a chance to experiment with a variety of art tools and materials. Children are encouraged to experiment and problem solve as they try their hand at painting, drawing, printmaking, textile arts, ceramics, collage and sculpture,

Our art lessons include the study of famous artists from many different countries and time periods. Your child will study the elements of art such as line, shape, color, value, texture and space. We will learn how to use these elements in interesting ways by studying these principles of design: repetition, movement, balance, emphasis, contrast, variety, emphasis and unity.

Multicultural art experiences include the study of art from Africa, South and Central America, Mexico, Europe, and Australia. A generous grant from the Oxford Educational Foundation provided our school with multicultural art curriculum and authentic art pieces. Masks, carvings, textile arts and sculptures from several different cultures offer student a hands-on connection to art and artists from all over the world.

Art experiences give children opportunities to explore and understand their world, think creatively, and solve problems with confidence. Ask your child about what they are learning in the art room. Our artistic expressions mean so much more when they are shared with family and friends.
