Art lessons for grade three will remain focused on the elements and principles of art. We will begin the year with a unit titled "Art About Me" with lessons on drawing self portraits, creating personalized Crazy Quilt squares, and looking closely at the work of African-American painter and textile artist, Faith Ringgold.

Our next unit will focus on where artists get their inspiration. We will look at the work of several artists who are inspired by the natural world. these artists include Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet and John James Audubon.

Next we will investigate similarities and differences in art produced by artists from different time periods and cultures and then utilize that knowledge in our own art making.

Trimester 2 features a unit on forms of art. We will begin by focusing on painting and sculpture when we dive into three lessons that take us under the sea!

Third grade is a year of building skills in using a variety of art materials. Some lessons to look forward to are:
Clay Fish
Textured Weavings
Masks
Wire Sculpture
Printmaking
Metal Tooling
Jewelry Making
Art from JUNK!
