1996 Five teachers attend Lviv workshop and organize 1997 Kovel workshop. Networking with other centers, and outreach. 1997 Teacher Training Seminar 1998 Two teachers attend TESOL (Teaching of English as a Second Language) International Conference in Ukraine.



We register the Association as an oblast organization. We hold our Grand Opening of the Resource Center. Association teachers present workshops. We establish an English Language Library. 1999 We provide Lutsk Pedagogical Institute with materials and workshops. We continue presenting workshops, and become an oblast center. Grant writing- Health Education. Impact school curriculum with new course proposal: Social Responsibility and the Environment. Myrhorod sponsors Peace Corps workshop on communicative approach. We attend the U.S. Teacher Training in Odessa. Olena Valchuk wins award from ACCELS (American Councils for Collaboration in Education and Language Study) and travels to USA to study at University of Montana. Teachers attend Peace Corps sponsored workshop on leadership in Lviv. Winners of 1st round of the U.S. – Ukraine Awards for Excellence in Teaching (TEA): Olha Issyuk, Iryna Kotyuk, and Valentyna Matvyeven. “Nadia” becomes a methodological materials evaluation center. Association teachers conduct leadership workshops for school directors and students. Impact school curriculum with new course: Health Education and Student Community Service Program. We host American teacher, Rick Burkhart, and create “Adapting Aquatics” as a volunteer project. Consult four centers on material acquisition. 2001 Myrhorod writes and presents Kovel with Leading is Action, a teachers' manual for student workshops. Olena Valchuk attends Conference for U.S. – Ukraine Awards for Excellence in Teaching (TEA). Two teachers attend U.S. Teacher Training in Uzhorod. Impact curriculum with new course: Civic Society. Student winners of correspondence competition: “How Do You Live, My Canadian Friend?” Winners of 1st round of the U.S. – Ukraine TEA: Olha Issyuk,Halyna Horkkun. Winners of National Polylingual Festival “Friendship Bridge – 2001” (Diploma 3 Degree) – teachers and students. Our students are awarded diplomas for participation in Macmillan Heinemann Correspondence Competition: “The Best Ways to Learn English. 2002 Association teachers attend training seminars held by American teacher at the U.S. Embassy ETRC. Two teachers attend TESOL International Conference in Chernihiv. Consult five centers on material acquisition.



Attend “Tolerance and Diversity” seminar held in Kiev. Olena Valchuk attends conference in Poland. Apply for Peace Corps Volunteer. Attend “How to Write Grants” workshop in Lviv sponsored by American Councils. Attend “Using Mary Glasgow Magazines in Teaching English” workshop in Lviv – sponsored by British Council. Six teachers of the Center attend the Siena College AIDS/Radio Programming workshop in Myrhorod. Winners of 1st round of U.S. – Ukraine Awards for Excellence in Teaching: Olha Issyuk, Halynna Horkun. Preliminary courses of Kyiv International University function at the Center. Students participate in International Olympiad and are competition finalists. Workshops continue to be a regular part of our activities. We host a teacher delegation from Belarus. Olena Valchuk, as a former winner of ACCELS award, applies for a U.S. – Ukraine student exchange to take place between her school and a school in South Carolina. 2003 Three Association teachers attend and present workshops at TESOL Conference in Vinitsia. One teacher attends and presents workshop at TESOL Conference in Odessa. Teachers apply to attend the TESOL-IATEFL Summer Institute in Crimea. Peace Corps Volunteer Kimberly Schmidt arrives to work at the Resource Center, providing training, networking, and workshops for students and teachers. Students participate in a Peace Corps sponsored essay contest , “Homeless Youth in Ukraine.” One student is a winner for national junior division, wins trip to Yalta. Winners in 1st round of U.S. – Ukraine Teaching Excellence Awards (TEA) are Olha Issyuk and Halyna Horkun. Teachers and students collaborate with the Rehabilitation Center on the project “Kindness Creates Kindness.” Two Association teachers apply for U.S. – Ukraine TEA. Kovel City Gymnasium students, under the Secondary Schools Excellence Program travel to Charleston, South Carolina, USA to spend three weeks with host families, attend classes at North Charleston High School, and experience American family life, education, and culture. We apply for a U.S. – Ukraine Student Exchange between Kovel City Gymnasium and Kane Area High School in Pennsylvania under the sponsorship of the Secondary Schools Excellence Program (SSEP) of the American Councils. We apply for a Peace Corps Volunteer. Three teachers attend a “Computer and Internet Use Training” Workshop in Lutsk at IATP Center. Six teachers attend a regional seminar “Innovations in Teaching in Schools” in Kovel, conducted by trainers from Lviv group “Poshuk.” Conducted a regional conference for Teachers of English of Volyn Specialized Schools and Gymnasiums. Conducted a regional conference “Innovations in Teaching English” for principals and vice-principals of Volyn Specialized Schools and Gymnasiums. Seminars for principals of Kovel schools. Seminar is conducted by a Peace Corps Volunteer from Lutsk, subject: “From a Creative Teacher to a Creative Student.” 2004 Association teachers attend and present workshops at the TESOL conference in Horlivka. Conference in Lyublin, Poland, “European Integration.” Two teachers attend a SSEP workshop presented by American Councils in Kyiv. We attended a “Computer and Internet Use” workshop conducted by American Councils at the IATP Center in Lutsk. Olena Valchuk, as chairman of the TEA Region 1 Nomination Committee, conducts a meeting with the members of the First Round Nomination Committee, where they nominate candidates for the 2004 U.S. – Ukraine TEA program. The Kovel City Gymnasium wins the second exchange of the SSEP (the partner School is Kane Area High School in Kane, Pennsylvania). One teacher attends the TESOL-IATEFL Summer Institute in Alushta. Olena Valchuk attends a TESOL – Ukraine Leadership meeting at the Public Affairs Division of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. Workshops and demonstrative lessons conducted on new methods and techniques in teaching English. Preliminary courses of Kyiv International University function at the Center.
