Writing and the keeping of written records is attained. Compass rose - It tells the direction on the map. Legend or Key - Describes the key characteristics of a map. Scale - The proportionate size of a map. Region - A large continuous part of the earth with common characteristics. Latitude - The distance north or south of the Equator and measured in degrees. Longitude - the distance east or west of the Prime Meridian and measured in degrees. Ethnicity - A type of group defined by racial or cultural similarities. Migration - The physical movement of humans from one place to another. Absolute Location - Location that has specific identifiers (ex. coordinates, address). Relative Location - Location as determined by its proximity to other places or things. Human-Environment Interaction - The relationship between societies and their environmental surrounding.
