Description • Course name: Visual Arts
• Text Books: Introducing Art, Exploring Art, and Understanding Art
• Broad course goals
1) Students will produce a variety of constructive activities demonstrating individual artistic skills and knowledge of the application of the elements of art and the principles of design.
2) Students will apply concepts from other subjects to create artwork.
3) Students will demonstrate analytical skills and utilize evaluative judgment to determine quality of artwork based on aesthetic views and expressiveness.
4) Students will understand similarities and differences in a variety of historical cultural artworks.

Grading Quarterly grades will consist of:
Tests (40%), Participation/Quiz (40%), and 9 Weeks Exam (20%).


Rules and Procedures Statement of rules:
1) To facilitate a successful learning environment, students will comply with the Bryan County Handbook policies.
2) Students will respect the people, materials, and furnishings in the classroom.
3) Students will not bring gum, candy, food, or drinks into the classroom.
4) Students will be responsible by being prepared, taking notes, participating in class discussion, and completing assigned activities.
5) All students must have written parental permission to use the Internet and will follow the Acceptable Use of Internet policy for research projects.
6) Severe disrespect and multiple infractions will result in an immediate office referral.

What to Expect • Description of what student and parents should expect:
1) Homework is assigned periodically.
2) Students are encouraged to update agendas daily in class.
3) Teachers will utilize the agenda as a means of communication between home and school.
4) Students are encouraged to practice learned skills.

1) Utilize the agenda as a means of communication between home and school. Please initial the agenda daily.
2) Establish a definite time and place for homework and study.
3) Review assignments with your child.
4) Monitor the completion and quality of your child’s work.
5) Encourage your child to organize and restock his/her notebook and book bag on a routine basis.
6) Treat school and homework as your child’s job.
7) Analyze and discuss various artworks with your child using art terms.
8) Encourage your child to teach you about art.
9) Have your child explain how various subjects act as a source for artworks.
