SHORT STORY ASSIGNMENT
Unit Goal: Students will identify and demonstrate knowledge of short story elements and figurative language.

Each student will write a short story. The story will combine the elements of the short story with the figurative language terms studied this unit. Each student will contract for a grade of C (79%), B (89%), or A (100%) for this assignment. Students must understand that the grade they contract for is the maximum number of points they are eligible to receive. They are not guaranteed that grade by contraction for that grade: they must earn the maximum number of points by doing an exceptional job. Requirements for receiving the chosen grade are as follows:

A (100%) _ You will write a 4 page short story (do not exceed 7 pages).
_ You will include a minimum of 2 round characters and 1 flat character.
_ You will include 3 different conflicts in your short story.

After you have written your short story, you must complete the explanation sheet and attach it to your story. If the story is typed in 10 or 12 point font and double-spaced, reduce the required page amount by one page. This assignment is worth a total of 250 points. The story is worth 200 points. All grammar and spelling errors will count as –1 and be subtracted from a 50 point grade.
