GOAL: The primary goal of physical education is to assist each student in the development of the attitudes, skills and knowledge of human movement that will result in a lifetime of participation in physical activity. Second grade students will: Demonstrate social and safety skills and habits with respect to self and others Demonstrate locomotor and non-locomotor movements in a variety of activities Demonstrate manipulative skills Demonstrate basic tumbling skills Demonstrate body awareness, spatial awareness, effort and relationships through movement patterns Participate in physical activities and recognize that they provide opportunities for enjoyment, challenge and self- expression Parents may assist their children by: Encouraging sportsmanship during team play Encouraging them to participate in extracurricular activities Exercising with them Monitoring them at play to improve social skills The second grade physical education curriculum will provide the student with a variety of movement experiences and guided instruction. Assessment will include teacher observation on locomotor, non-locomotor, manipulative and tumbling skills. Students will also practice Fitness Test skills to tested in future grades. |
