GRADES 3-5 Curriculum
 

 

 





GOAL: The primary goal of Physical Education is to assist each student in the development of the attitudes, skills, and knowledge of human movement that will result in a lifetime of participation in physical activity.

THIRD, FOURTH & FIFTH grade students will:

Identify and participate in regular physical activities to improve skills and personal health
Participate in activities for fitness, enjoyment and social interaction
Demonstrate respect for others, regardless of individual differences in skills and abilities
Apply fundamental and specialized locomotor skills in game situations
Demonstrate critical elements for manipulative skills
Identify and apply appropriate cooperative, social and teamwork skills in game situations
Follow rules, cooperate with teammates and apply a simple strategy in a variety of sports-specific lead-up games
Apply self-control in physical activities and differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors
Interpret and move to a variety of music
Recognize the components of skill-related fitness (agility, balance, coordination, speed and power
Participate in health-related fitness assessments
Parents may assist their children by:
Being a role-model of good sportsmanship
Going on walks together
Involving them in sports
Encouraging physical activity
Assessment will include teacher observations on locomotor, manipulative, tumbling, lead-up and team sports and activities. Students will also be given the Presidential Fitness Challenge twice a year.
