SEEKING MEANING IN ART

 

Fourth Grade Art begins with CLAY!! Everyones favorite medium!
Shape and form will be our focus as we create some colorful clay creatures using pinching and coiling methods. In this three-dimensional art unit we will study the art of Alberto Giacommetti, Alexander Calder, Frank Stella and Red Grooms.

A review unit on the elements and principles of art will help us to build our artist vocabulary and develop art appreciation and criticism skills. The unit is titled, Seeking Meaning in Art In this unit we will play two lively art appreciation games and then create a collage with an art gallery theme where students will be required to choose a painting that they really love and use the painting as part of their collage. We will be building our art vocabulary, get to know many famous paintings and and have fun with paper collage.

Unit 2- Organizing and Understanding Color

Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, Intermediate Colors, Monochromatic Colors, Complementary Colors, Shades, Tints,
Sure, it sounds confusing now, but by the end of this unit, you will be a color expert!


Our final unit for the first semester will be Unit 3 Styles of Art
"Fuzzy" Impressionists, Wild and Crazy Expressionists, Fantasy and Realism, four styles or ways artists see the world.
