Mr. Rice completed his intern teaching year at South Salem High School in 1966 as a biology teacher. He was a drill sergeant instructor with the Oregon Army Reserve, a hunting dog field trial judge, and a hunter safety instructor. Mr. Rice was hired by the former Concord School District in 1968 as a 7th grade science teacher.

Four years later he became a VW mechanic and finish carpenter.

In 1977, North Clackamas School District hired Mr. Rice as Lot Whitcomb's librarian and media specialist. He later taught 6th grade at Whitcomb before moving to Milwaukie Elementary in 1986.

At Milwaukie Mr. Rice taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, 4th/5th combinations, and was media specialist one year.

Mr. Rice and Mrs. Rice team taught during their years together at Milwaukie Elementary School. Formally retiring from teaching on January 31, 2003, Mr. Rice then volunteered as the safety patrol crossing guard, helped in the production room, and in Mrs. Rice's classroom before school every day until she retired in 2007.

Mr. Rice currently volunteers with the Clackamas County Retired Senior Volunteer Program as a driver for senior citizens who are unable to drive themselves to medical appointments and grocery shopping.

HAPPY RETIREMENT, MR. RICE!
