Here is what was discussed in class. I will reflect on each topic and write about it and what it means to education.

1. Online gaming
Are online games a learning tool or a waste of time? Can video games save education? I feel traditional video games, such as game boys, Nintendo to name a few may create problems in students’ learning whereas educational online games geared for the their particular level can help them to learn. This discussion as well as the articles being addressed was generally positive. However, some say that it takes too long to find online games. For example the other day I took my class to the computer lab to explore what Google has to offer in regards to online math games. For most of the students it was a challenge in finding a game suited for their individual needs and one that was exciting, interactive and engaging. It took some students about an hour to find the best site for their needs. I find it easier if I have a site for them to go to right away, so they can start learning while playing the game. However, it was a learning experience for them to discover what google has to offer.

Should US retool instruction?

3.Online Learning for High School Success
High school dropout is a problem because the schools lose many students and money each year when they drop out. This affects both the schools and the students. The schools lose tons of money each year when there are fewer students enrolled in school and/or absent of enrolled students. The student has a difficult time finding a job or making as much money as someone who has a diploma. The high school dropout earns only "65 percent of what people who have high school degrees make,” says “Education at a Glance.” The online learning that was discussed for high school success can help not only minority and physically handicapped people but also many other students. It provides high-quality education. In addition, there are grants, support from all sorts of companies, and other incentives to encourage children to stay in school.

4. Google Tools
We should definitely use Google tools in our classrooms. It is successfully used when searching for various topics for education purpose, e.g. research papers. Also, it is used for looking for just about anything that someone may need to find more information on. In addition, we use it for researching or furthering our knowledge of a particular subject area. Furthermore, teachers have students use Google to search for facts and gather data relevant to their topic. Finally, teachers use it to communicate, show & share, e.g. RCTA (Redwood City Teachers Association) set up a Google group account for teachers to communicate privately. It helps students as well as teachers and parents become involved and engaged. Google tools expand everyone’s knowledge of the world around him or her.
