" ... research demonstrates that autistic traits are distributed into the non-autistic population; some people have more of them, some have fewer. History suggests that many individuals whom we would today diagnose as autistic - some severely so - contributed profoundly to our art, our math, our science, and our literature. "

-- Morton Gernsbacher, parent of an autistic child.

This page provides a collection of informational and support reources for parents and caregivers of children with autism. Although there is no cure for autism, there are a number of interventions, including behavioral and nutritional therapies, which may improve the quality of life for the child and that of the family.

A child with autism has a significant impact on the lives of family members, and it is important for parents to consider all intervention and educational options as objectively as possible. Parents must educate themselves in order to become the best advocate for their child.

Autism Education - Interventions

The Autism Education Network provides a page dedicated to educating parents about the variety of therapies designed to remediate many of the symptoms of autism. These therapies include educational, behavioral, and biomedical interventions. • To discuss the ways in which autistic parents can sometimes be particularly good for autistic children.

• To describe and fight discrimination against autistic parents and potential parents.

• To describe the positive experiences of children of autistic parents.

• To dispel damaging myths and stereotypes around autistic parenting.

• To connect ideas from other disability communities to what happens to autistic parents.
