General Description of Lesson:
Using Kid Pix Deluxe 4, students will use the teacher-made clock template and the KidPix tools to describe and illustrate what they do in the mornings or evenings.

1.2 Tell time to the nearest half hour and relate time to events (e.g., before/after, shorter/longer).

1.1 Sort objects and data by common attributes and describe the categories.

Objective(s) of lesson:
Students will refine their concepts of measurable attributes and units of comparison. They will choose the most appropriate attributes and units to quantify time for a wide variety of purposes and can justify their choices to others.

Students will use direct measurement strategies and relationships between particular attributes to quantify time. They will identify, plan and act to address measurement problems.

Time Required: 1 class period(s) of 30 minutes.

Materials and Resources used by teachers and students:

1. One computer per student with Kid Pix Deluxe 4 software installed.
2. One networked printer
3. Printer paper

Preparation for Teacher:
1. Create a clock template in Kid Pix Deluxe 4.
2. Turn on all computers and launch Kid Pix Deluxe 4.
3. Make sure the teacher-made clock template is located in the same folder on each computer.

Step by Step Teacher Procedure:
1. Inform the students that they are going to do a fun project on the computer.
2. Model the tasks as you explain the following:

STUDENT TASKS
1. In Kid Pix Deluxe 4, locate and open the clock template.
2. Think about some things that you do each day.
3. Use the line tool to draw the hands on the clocks to show the times you do these things.
4. Underneath the clocks write the time in numerals and activity that you do at that time.
5. Use the drawing tools or the stamp tool to illustrate your activities.
6. Print your design.

Assessment Type(s): Demonstrations, Observations, Projects
Assessment Plan:
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of telling time by drawing the hands on the clock and typing the time shown correctly. They will use the stamp tool to attach pictures to their design detailing what they do at that time of day. The pictures will be grouped appropriately. Students will print out their final product.

Teacher will observe the students while they are working and assess the final product print-out.

Notes, tips, suggestions and/or extension activities:
1. It's recommended that the teacher create her own "Rock Around the Clock" project to show an example of a finished project to the students.
2. Encourage students to be creative when selecting stamps for their day.

1.6 Use knowledge of the basic rules of punctuation and capitalization when writing.
