RHMS School Council Minutes February 22, 2011 I. Mrs. Herndon called the meeting to order. II. Council members present: Helen Herndon, Jennifer Costello, Dallas Daniel, Judy Gulle, Sherry Oddi, and Catherine Warren. III. Catherine Warren read an inspirational reading. IV. Mrs. Oddi led the Pledge of Allegiance. V. Mrs. Herndon passed out a March calendar of school events. VI. Mrs. Costello was introduced as our new parent representative on the council. VII. Mrs. Oddi stated that minutes were emailed to each council member, posted on the school website, and one copy was placed in the front office. VIII. Mr. Daniel made a motion to approve the minutes, and Mrs. Gulle seconded the motion. Minutes were approved with no corrections. IX. There were no visitors present. X. New Business: Activities on the March calendar were discussed. The band will go to Atlanta in April to perform. The band performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association this was an honor to perform for a state convention. Holidays for students are March 17 and 18. Benchmark Testing will take place March 14-16. 8th grade teachers are hosting tutorials after school for those in need of reinforcement for the CRCT based on CRCT scores from last year as well as benchmark scores. Rising 6th grade orientation will occur in May. Lynn Hughes will coordinate this event. Mrs. Herndon has been going over to Carver to meet with parents of special needs students. 8th grade orientation for the high school will take place in April. Cheryl Lovell will coordinate this event. The new school is being worked on. Staff has been asked to pick out a logo to be painted in the halls. At this time, we have approximately 1300 students enrolled. School Website information Mrs. L. Warren will be updating all school websites to make them uniform for the system. Teachers will have websites and there will be sports pages with calendars, directions to games, and other information. o Parents commented that websites are important sources of information because there is a break down in communication between middle school students and their parents. o Mrs. Costello praised the PowerSchool website, but commented that it would be nice to have behavior issues posted. Mrs. Herndon stated that due to confidentiality issues, behavior issues will probably not be assessable through PowerSchool. There will be an honors program at the end of the year. 8th grade will have an end of the year dance. XI. Next School Council meeting will be at 7:00 AM in room 209 on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. XII. The last meeting of the School Council for this school year will take place on May 24. Teachers will vote to replace one year representative. XIII. Mrs. Gulle moved to adjourn the meeting; Mr. Daniel seconded the motion, and the meeting was adjourned. |
