RHMS School Council Minutes
April 27, 2010
I. Mrs. Herndon called the meeting to order.
II. Council members present: Judy Gulle, Helen Herndon, Sherry Oddi, Catherine Warren, Mindy Galbreath, and Dallas Daniel.
III. Mrs. Herndon led the Pledge of Allegiance.
IV. Mrs. Warren read an inspirational quote.
V. Business partners were introduced. Mr. Daniel from Plantation Building Supply (2 year term), and Mrs. Galbreath from Galbreath Heating and Air (1 year term)
VI. There were no visitors present at the meeting
VII. Old Business:
• Ballots for parent representatives for School Council will be distributed by Mrs. Herndon at Carver Elementary School. She will set up in the Media Center on Tuesday, May 4, prior to the PTSO meeting to collect and count the ballots.
VIII. New Business:
• CRCT testing went well – attendance was very good.
• Writing test scores came back.
• RHMS is continuing to address standards in the classroom instruction. Teachers will receive more training on standards based classrooms.
• Response to Intervention – Mrs. Herndon and Mrs. Oddi attended training for GRASP to look at universal screenings and probes to help teachers pinpoint student weaknesses in an attempt to help all students perform on or above grade level.
• Science teachers are working on units for next year.
• RHMS will be losing 4 staff members because of spouse transfers and relocations.
• Budget issues were discussed.
• School calendar was discussed – there will be 180 days of school next year.
• The last two days of this school year will be half days. The exam schedule has been altered. Parent information letters will go home soon.
• Special education numbers are growing. Mrs. Herndon will meet will parents and special ed students at Carver next week in an attempt to rest fears of the transition to the middle school. She will meet again with the parents and students at the beginning of the next school year.
• Mrs. Herndon shared the draft of the Annual Report for the School Council.
• Golf is the only sport still in session.
• Mrs. Herndon and Coach Herndon will hand deliver fitness forms to the students at Carver.
• Honors Night is Thursday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. in the gym.
• Tonight is band contest night.
• Thursday night, May 29, is 6th grade orientation for rising 6th graders.
• PTSO meeting with Chorus and Band performances will be Tuesday night, May 4.
• 8th grade dance is Friday, May 7.
• Career Day is Friday, May 7.
• Chorus will sing at the elementary school on May 6, and at RHPS on April 29.
• 4-H Banquet is May 11 at Bryan County Elementary School.
• May 11 is the Spring Sports Banquet.
• All events are posted on the RHMS web site. (bryan.k12.ga.us/rhms)
IX. Parent Concerns
• 8th grade orientation at the high school went very well according to Mrs. Galbreath. She commended Mrs. C. Lovell for a job well done.
• If parents have any concerns, Mrs. Herndon asks that they call her so that she can address their concerns.
• PowerSchool is a valuable tool for parents.
• The school web site and posted calendar are great sources of information.

• Results of elections
• Calendar for meetings for next year
