Focusing on the Learning Environment
 

 

All of the InTASC standards pertain to classroom management in some way. However, standard three--Learning Environments--is the standard that is most closely associated with classroom management. According to standard three, effective classroom management requires the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for:

1. Building a positive classroom climate
2. Ensuring the safety of all students
3. Setting clear expectations for behavior & performance
4. Using effective verbal & non-verbal communication
5. Motivating & engaging students
6. Building positive relationships with & among students
7. Responding to misbehavior in an appropriate manner
8. Maintaining open lines of communication with teachers and family members
9. Using time, space, and other resources wisely
