Scientists keep a Log Book of their research and you need to keep a log book, also. In this log book, you need to KEEP A RECORD (SCIENTIFIC LOG) OF EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS WITH YOUR EXPERIMENT!! Record everything you DO & OBSERVE in your Science Project Log. · A log is like a diary- it is your day-to-day notes on how things are going. · It includes ideas learned from your resources and talking to various people. · It includes your measurements and observations. · Observations include what you see, hear, smell, feel, and taste! · It includes if and how your procedures change. · It includes tables and charts, sketches, and photographs. · DATE every entry in your log. EXAMPLE: 10/01: Received permission from teacher to test all 8th grade students in her science classes... she has 80 girls and 75 boys... how convenient! Also, I was able to obtain the 150 50 ml beakers needed for the experiment..." This will be placed in the appendix sections of your science fair notebook. RECORD ALL MEASUREMENT DATA in TABLES AND CHARTS. · Design a data table before your experiment, but be flexible and redesign as needed! · Never lose this information - it must be included in the final paper! · Include EVERYTHING in your log -- all data, even if the experiment does not come out the way you expected! Be honest please -- even negative results are useful! · Make accurate measurements! · Take photos as you perform your experiment! DATA RESULTS After the experiment, you will need a TYPED copy of your data for your notebook. You will never throw away your handwritten data (in your log book) because this is put in your appendix. · TYPE all data for your Science Project Notebook. · Include the Tables you created. · Include photographs and labeled sketches in color. · In several paragraphs, write general descriptions of your observations. That is, write out what happened during your experiment. This written description of the outcome to your experiments will require at least a page. |
